Labels:text | screenshot | font OCR: Front Edward Charles Ford Row Whitey is the son of James and Edith Ford and a graduate of Manhattan High School of Aviation in New York City, where he played baseball. He later pitched, and played first base for the "Thirty Fourth Avenue Boys" amateur club in the Queens-Nassau League. While he was playing in the amateur league, he was encouraged to concentrate on pitching by a New York Yankee scout, who later signed him to a Yankee contract. After playing three seasons in the Minors, he joined the Yankees in 1950 where he compiled a 9-1 record with a 2.81 ERA as a rookie. 1 @1992 Front Row
